Papercrane
SendGrid tracks delivery, bounces, and silent drops, but only for a few days unless you pay for more history, and it never knows which order, signup, or reset request an email belonged to. Papercrane joins SendGrid's events to the record in your store, warehouse, or database, and keeps the trail.
Connect in about a minute with a key scoped to read only access. Free to connect and ask. Paid plans start when you publish a dashboard. See pricing
The silent drop
SendGrid accepts the request and returns success, then drops it later if the address already bounced, reported spam, or unsubscribed. Nothing tells your code it happened.
The trail that closes
The Activity Feed shows a recent snapshot. A real search window costs an add on, and even then it stops at 30 days and the last million events.
The report with no name on it
Category and subuser comparisons cap out at ten at a time and come back as aggregate numbers, never the signup, order, or reset request behind them.
SendGrid logs what happened to every email it sends. Whether you can still see it, and whether it is connected to the order or signup it belonged to, are two different questions.
One reset email, two ways it can go
Delivered
Your app
Reset requested, 2:14 PM
POST /v3/mail/send → 202 Accepted
SendGrid
Processed 2:14 PM → Delivered 2:14 PM → Opened 2:19 PM
Your app
(nothing more to do)
Silently dropped
Your app
Reset requested, 2:14 PM
POST /v3/mail/send → 202 Accepted
SendGrid
Processed 2:14 PM → Dropped: address already on the bounce list
Your app
Nothing. No error, no retry, no ticket until the customer calls.
Your code gets the same success response either way. Only SendGrid's own activity log knows which one happened, and only for as long as that log keeps it.
The window
SendGrid's Activity Feed
capped
A recent snapshot by default. Up to 30 days with the paid history add-on, capped at the last 1,000,000 events on export.
A Papercrane dashboard
As long as you keep the dashboard, joined to the order or signup it belongs to, searchable by customer instead of by message ID.
Retention and export figures from SendGrid's own Email Activity documentation, linked.
Which orders in the last 7 days show no delivered receipt email?
How many password reset emails bounced or got dropped this month, and why?
Which signups never got a delivered welcome email, and are they still stuck?
Which template gets fewer opens: the old receipt or the new one?
Compare delivery and open rates across every subuser we send from, not just the first ten.
Every answer comes back as a chart on a live dashboard, joined to the record it belongs to.
1. Connect with a key scoped to read only access
2. Ask a question
3. SendGrid's events get joined to your orders, signups, or subusers and built into a hosted dashboard
4. If a chart breaks, the error routes back to the AI agent that built it
Read only access to the reporting, activity, and stats data SendGrid already keeps. Papercrane never sends email through your account.
| The job | SendGrid's own dashboard | Exports and a script against the Event Webhook | SendGrid + Papercrane |
|---|---|---|---|
| Check one address | Search the Activity Feed, if it is still in the window | Query your own warehouse, if someone built the pipeline | Ask, get the delivery and drop history in seconds |
| Connect it to the order or signup | Not possible; SendGrid has no idea | Possible, if you wrote the join yourself | Built in: joins to your store, warehouse, or database |
| Compare more than ten categories or subusers | Export each one, stitch them by hand | Depends on the pipeline | One dashboard, any number, kept live |
| Keep the history past SendGrid's own window | Gone, unless you paid for the add on and exported in time | Kept, if you already stream events out | A published dashboard keeps what it already pulled in |
| Share it with whoever filed the ticket | Give them SendGrid access | Give them warehouse access | Send a link to a live dashboard |
When you don't need us
If what you need is inbox placement testing across providers, seed lists, and spam trap monitoring, a deliverability specific tool like GlockApps or Validity is built for that, and we are not: we show you what SendGrid recorded, not an independent placement test. If your team already pipes the Event Webhook into your own warehouse and has someone who writes the joins, you already have most of what this page sells; Papercrane is worth connecting when you want the joined dashboard without building that pipeline yourself.
A delivery event means more next to the order, signup, or invoice it belongs to. Most teams connect their billing, their database, or their CRM alongside SendGrid.
Connect SendGrid, trace one email you are not sure about, and see exactly where it went.
